Radio station partners with Ayres Hotels to help Katrina victims

COSTA MESA – Listeners to popular Southern California radio station KFI-AM on September 1 and 7, 2005 had an opportunity to participate in a landmark fundraising campaign for the Orange County Chapter of the America Red Cross that has netted more than $700,000 to date to assist Katrina victims.

The broadcasts originated from the Ayres Hotel Laguna Woods and Ayres Hotel Seal Beach, and included live appearances by local station personalities John & Ken, Bill Handel, John Ziegler and others, as well as call-ins from some of the station’s well-known national stars, including Rush Limbaugh.

“We were pleased that KFI asked us to hold the fundraising broadcasts at our properties,” said Douglas Ayres. “The money raised will support the noble efforts of the Red Cross.” In response to the dire needs created by the natural disaster, the Laguna Woods event was arranged in just 24 hours.
